Karen McEwan

Direct Operations Manager

Karen has been working at Tesco since the age of 17.  She initially worked in HR, before transferring to operational roles, which included managing a number of Tesco Extra stores. Until recently she was a store director in the London area.  Karen moved over to Dotcom less than a year ago, keen to work in a different area of the organisation, and to strategically develop and help expand Tesco Direct.

She is currently responsible for the Direct desks in 230 stores. This means that much of her job involves managing a team of coaches who visit stores up and down the country, providing support, training staff and working to integrate the desks within the main Tesco stores. She also manages the new desk opening programme.

Karen says that working in Dotcom gives her the freedom to add her own perspective and bring new ideas to the business.  She feels it is particularly important to engage the stores, and to get her team operating behind her.  Karen does have a great deal of tenacity, and feels this has helped her a lot, as has her knowledge of the main business, which means she is able to deal easily with Tesco stores.

She has this advice to anyone thinking of working for Dotcom:

"Be prepared to work hard, be prepared to offer your ideas and be a great team player and you’ll find it a challenging and rewarding environment."
