After graduating from the University of Warwick with a BSc in Management Science, Ceri joined the graduate programme at the agency EHS Brann, and then went on to work at Planning-Inc, where she was responsible for the BT broadband account. Given her experience in data planning, she was keen to work in an organisation with one of the world’s best loyalty schemes, so it’s no surprise she joined Tesco, attracted initially by the club card scheme.
She began her marketing career as a planner for the wine site and our former flowers site. This meant she had ownership and budgets, and was able to decide how money was spent. She then moved into Grocery Commercial. Here she managed a major marketing team, was responsible for seeing that basket size regularly increased, that the journey for customers was simple and effective, as well as planning for the future. It was Ceri’s idea to launch "Cheaper alternatives" on the site, which has not only been a great success but has been imitated by other retailers.
In September, Ceri became the senior marketing manager for our new clothing site, responsible for budget, meeting sales targets and the future direction of the site. Could the catwalk be next, we wonder?
Ceri thinks Tesco is great not just because of the people who work here, but because of the ways different teams interact with one another and regularly work together to make things happen. Ceri says: "Tesco has a great culture, but it’s all based around the values. If your personal values match up with ours, you’ll always be a success."
